- According to the independent analysis from The Verge, Dating on Facebook is not very popular, especially compared to other services.
- Facebook hasn’t mentioned much about its dating app since it was launched globally in 2019.
- It is very likely that Facebook’s bad reputation for data security plays a role in the apparent lack of popularity of this service.
In 2019, Facebook finally brought its dating app to North America. Previously, he had a test drive in South America. The app is focused on connecting people for romantic partnerships, as are countless other apps such as Tinder, Hinge and Bumble.
However, according to independent analyzes from The Verge, it does not seem that the dating application is very popular. The Verge Localized ads used Facebook runs promoting the service as a way to extrapolate the number of users in large metropolitan areas.

For example, in New York, census data estimate that there are nearly four million unmarried people. Facebook’s own ads suggested that 278,000 of these people use its dating app, which is about 7%. Match Group – which has dating apps like Tinder and Hinge – claims to have more than those in the New York City area. In fact, the average number of paying subscribers to Match-owned applications is nearly 11 million people in the United States. Who knows how many non-paying users there are.
The Verge breaks down the number into several other major US cities. He also claims that information that has only surfaced around a potential speed dating app known as Sparked could be a way to attract more users to Facebook Dating.
Regardless, it is very likely that people simply do not trust Facebook to help them meet their potential partners. Obviously, all dating applications exploit the data of their users, but Match Group and other companies do not have a poor reputation for security and privacy of Facebook.
