The PRM will introduce amendments to the 137 articles of its statutes, including the one on re-election

Eddy Olivares, chairman of the Statutory Reform Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), reported that on May 1, they will present to the highest body of the ruling party the proposal to reformulate the 137 articles of its internal statutes, including the presidential subject. refusal.

“We are amending all the articles, ie the 137 articles have been amended either in substance or in writing … in the case of the 101 these changes will be known by the extraordinary national convention, so yes, that article is under discussion in these moments and it will be the members of the convention where the party will be fully represented who will decide whether or not to approve these changes “, Olivares declared for LISTÍN DIARIO.

Article 101 of the governing party’s statutes states that “until the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) convenes a congress to discuss the issue of presidential re-election, it will be banned.”

Olivares did not disclose the exact points that were amended in that specific article, but stressed that its content was not the main reason for the proposed amendments to that party’s convention.

“The PRM has essentially the same articles that the PRD (Dominican Revolutionary Party) had when it was formed five years ago, so a reform of these statutes is needed, the content of that article not being the main reason for the reform. .. most of these changes to be submitted are ready to be approved from July 2019, but, since we are in the middle of the pre-campaign, it was decided to leave it until after the elections “, added Olivares.

Also, a member of the executive leadership of PRM said that the reform aims to update the statutes in accordance with what is established both in Law 15-19 on the electoral regime and in Law 33-18 on political parties, which were approved after consolidating that match.
