Jonathan Hernández for the rest of the year (elbow)

SF. PETERSBURG, Florida, USA – Jonathan Hernandez, a left-hander for the Texas Rangers, underwent elbow ligament reconstruction on Monday.

The operation was performed less than two weeks after another Rangers doctor, José Leclerc, went to the operating room for the same procedure.

Likewise, the fastball specialist Matt Bush will be absent from the Texas bullpen at least until July.

Jo Daniels, president of Rangers athletic operations, said Dr. Keith Meister is in charge of Tommy John’s operation on Hernandez. He added that the operation went according to plan.

Both Hernandez and Leclerc will be eliminated at least until the start of the 2022 season. Meister said Leclerc’s operation took place on March 31.

Bush has a flexor in his right arm and will receive an injection on Tuesday.

Hernández, 24, stood out in the 2020 campaign, shortened to 60 games by the pandemic, with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 2.90 in 27 appearances. He broke 31 and went eight in 31 innings.

It has a dive that averages 98 mph. But he was in the middle of the pre-season with a ligament sprain, before deciding on surgery after an MRI performed the previous week.
