JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colombia – Some bars will have to close and restaurants and gyms will be forced to operate at 50% capacity again on Friday due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in the county. Jefferson.
“Unfortunately, we are slipping in the wrong direction,” Dr. Dawn Comstock, executive director for Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH), said in a news release Wednesday in Denver.
The county reported 142.7 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants for the period between March 31 and April 6, which exceeds the values for the Blue level (115 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for five consecutive days) in the COVID- 19 of the state.
Comstock said most of the new cases belong to adults between the ages of 20 and 39, adding that most outbreaks in the county have been reported in schools and unregulated businesses, such as offices and retail.
“Other factors that contribute to the growth of the community include a significant decrease in social distance, as well as the circulation of virus variants,” Comstock said in a press release.
The announcement of moving the county to a more restrictive level on the color-coded dial comes a day after Jefferson County changed its public health order on masks, no longer requires them in outdoor spaces, but still requires them for indoor public settings.
Below the Yellow Level, the following restrictions will take effect from Friday, April 9 at 6 am:
- Restaurants are limited to 50% of the displayed occupancy limit, not to exceed 150 people per room. The last call is at 1 in the morning
- Bars must close if they do not serve food.
- Indoor events are limited to 50% of the displayed occupancy limit, not to exceed 150 people per room in the usable space. Useful space for seated events and unframed events with less than 50 people is calculated using the 6-foot spacing between non-household contacts. For uninterrupted events with more than 50 people, the usable space should be calculated using the Distance Space Calculator.
- Outdoor events are limited to 50% of the displayed occupancy limit, not to exceed 175 people in usable space per designated area calculated using the Distance Space Calculator. If the event is set, the usable space should be calculated using the 6-foot spacing between non-household members.
- Recreation, including gyms, recreation centers and swimming pools, is limited to a capacity of 50%, so as not to exceed 50 people per room indoors or in the outdoor activity area. Units larger than 7200 square meters can use the Distance Space Calculator to expand to 100 owners per room in their usable space.
- Organized sports are limited to 25 players, excluding coaches, referees and referees.
- Outdoor guided activities are limited to a capacity of 50%, not exceeding 10 people.
- Youth camps are limited to 10 indoor participants and 25 outdoor participants.

“None of us want to go back to Dial after all the hard work we put in and the sacrifices we made,” Comstock said. “It is important to take the necessary steps now to reverse this trend, so we have the opportunity to celebrate the things and people we love and enjoy. We missed many of these special occasions last year, but if we work hard now, that should not be the case for 2021. ”
Comstock continued to urge residents to wear masks, keep a good social distance of six feet from others and avoid gatherings.
At least two other Colorado counties moved to more restrictive levels per week this week: Summit moved to orange on Wednesday and Pueblo county moved to yellow on Tuesday due to new increases in COVID-19 cases.
