Adriano Moraes removes “Mighty Mouse”

ONE weightlifting champion Adriano Moraes (19-3) became the first man to ever get a stoppage victory against former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson (30-4-1), stopping him with strikes in the second round of their fight at ONE on TNT I.

The contest served as the main MMA contest of Wednesday’s event, which took place at Singapore Indoor Stadium and was broadcast live on TNT in the US.

The taller Moraes stayed out early, constantly shifting sideways and forcing Johnson to try to press the action out of range. Moraes finally caught a shot from his opponent, then fell on the canvas and tried to threaten his leg. While Moraes could not finish the submission, the ensuing fight saw him move to the top position, where he finished the round.

Moraes remained mobile in the second, with Johnson changing positions smoothly and trying to press. The aggression was impressive, but it would be reversed, Moraes slipping into a clear combination of two fists against an opponent in advance who sent him crashing to the floor. Moraes took advantage of an astonished opponent, scoring a legal knee to a downed enemy and winning the stoppage victory at the 2:24 mark in the second frame.

Running the ONE Championship in the first season in the USA started quite frustrating, Eddie Alvarez (10-8) being disqualified in the first round of his light competition with Iuri Lapicus (15-1).

After a short sensation to start the fight, Alvarez fired inside for an elimination and was able to pull the action on the canvas in the opening minute. Sitting next to the cage and with the opponent in a dominant position, Lapicus turned his face towards the fence, leaving only the back of his head. Alvarez threw a few straight hands that landed at the base of the skull – and Lapicus screamed before falling back on the canvas.

Referee Justin Brown intervened immediately as Alvarez headed for his hammer fists. After a brief moment of confusion, Brown presented Alvarez with a red card.

After the appeal was made, a clearly emotional Alvarez said he considered the beatings legal, but apologized for the violation and expressed concern for his opponent’s well-being as he was locked in a stretcher.

“You put me in a cage,” Alvarez said. “The referee is there. No matter what call he makes, that’s it. I apologize. I hope Yuri is okay. ”

Former UFC and Bellator champion, Alvarez has now won just one in three appearances at the ONE Championship.

In the opening match of the evening, Oumar Kane (3-0), better known as “Reug Reug”, kept his perfect career record without fail, in the first round of Patrick Schmid, kickboxer (0-1 ).

Kane was patient to open the contest, but eventually won with his fists, working his way inside, before taking action on the floor. Schmid struggled to his feet, while Kane clenched his fists, and the fight was put off at 1:48 of the opening round.
