Queen Noor, the American mother of Jordan’s former Crown Prince Hamzah, has denounced “bad slander” against her son, who says he is under house arrest. Noor wrote on Twitter: “Praying that truth and justice will prevail for all innocent victims of this evil slander. May God bless them and keep them safe. ” The former Crown Prince said in a video broadcast on the BBC that he was under house arrest and that several of his friends had been arrested and that his security details had been removed. The Jordanian army said Hamzah, who now has no official role in the kingdom, was asked to stop “some activities that could be used to shake Jordan’s stability and security.” Jordanian official Ayman Safadi told reporters on Sunday that Hamzah had faced influential figures from the country and abroad “at the right time to take steps to shake the security of our defiant Jordan.”
The army denied the detention of the former Crown Prince, who was accused of criticizing King Jordan, King Abdullah II, and said the kingdom was “hindered by corruption, nepotism and mismanagement.” Meanwhile, Jordan’s critical allies in the Gulf region have joined Jordan’s actions and expressed support for the king.
