Testing the Oppo Find X3 Pro microscope lens

MacRumors is an Apple-focused site, but sometimes we like to share notable new features that Apple competitors add to their devices, as a look at what Apple might explore in the future and just to keep up with what other companies are doing. Oppo recently launched a smartphone with a microscope lens and we thought it would be fun to check it out and see how it works in our latest YouTube video.

Oppo Find X3 Pro is not a phone sold in the United States and is quite expensive at 1,149 euros (~ 1350 USD), but it has a 3 megapixel “Microlens”, which can be a first for a smartphone.

The Find X3 Pro’s Microlens offers 60x magnification and ring light, so you can see things up close, as you can see in the video. It’s an incredible niche feature, but it definitely makes Find X3 Pro stand out and it’s fun to play.

You can see the AirPods Max mesh fabric, a hair, the veins of a plant leaf and more. You will need a stable hand or a tripod to highlight most objects, which is a disadvantage.

In addition to the Microlens camera, Oppo’s Find X3 Pro is a top pilot smartphone that easily competes with other Android smartphones on the market. It also has a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 13-megapixel camera, so it still offers what most competitors have, just with the bonus microscope lens.

You can get high magnification microscopes that can be connected wirelessly to a smartphone for less than $ 50, so this is a feature that you can reproduce quite affordable, but it’s definitely fun to have on hand for magnification on the go needs.

Since this smartphone is not sold in the United States at this time, it must be imported and even with the latest features and microlenses, it is probably not worth paying the asking price of 1300 USD along with shipping fees to get one. A built-in microscope is probably not something we will see on the iPhone in the near future, but it is an interesting concept.
