The Vikings corner unit has been up and down in 2020.
Corners Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney were defeated early, before the two found their way into the league. Mike Hughes took care of the injuries again. And Holton Hill was given up on the injured reserve.
Despite the fights, the corner body has something to build for the coming seasons. The Vikings have younger players coming out of promising seasons. The team also added veterans to the free agency to help solidify the unit.
Mackensie Alexander is one of those veterans. On Alexander’s agent and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Vikings reunite with their old nickel corner.
I think this agreement is an excellent move for both sides. Alexander can play the role of nickel corner for a team that sometimes lacked the corner depth sometimes in 2020. He knows the scheme of the Vikings, he is a solid striker and he has a decent coverage. Not only that, but Minnesota is expected to sign him at the veteran minimum, plus a signing bonus, for ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
I think Gladney can still compete for seats, but as I stand, I’d assume Patrick Peterson and Dantzler are the two wide corners and Alexander is the nickel corner. Minnesota has improved its corner unit in the off-season and the team did not have to give up a ton to do so.
