Observations from the Yankees’ 13-12 spring training loss to the Phillies on Thursday.
They all get up
It took a while, but Aaron Judge managed to hit his first round of the spring with a shot in the first half that cleared the tiki bar from the left against left-hander Matt Moore. Clint Frazier said the judge hit one over the eye in the BayCare Ballpark during the beating training. “Being the guy who hits behind Aaron in the practice of beatings is a hard act to follow.”
Drowned
Michael King said he had “no sense” for his pitches and showed. The left hit three bats and allowed seven runs in two innings during an outing that saw him twice out of the innings. Spring training rules allow players to re-enter games to increase their pitch.
Caught my attention
Ex-Yankee Didi Gregorius made a fantastic sliding catch in a not too superficial center on Giancarlo Stanton’s pop-up at the top of the first. Gregorius had a solid comeback season with the Phillies and Joe Girardi a year ago.
Friday’s schedule
Gerrit Cole will receive his last spring start when the Yankees host Baltimore at 18:35 at Steinbrenner Field.
