Houston Mayor Harris County Judge Asking for Federal Support for NRG Park Vaccine Clinic

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – As many continue to be vaccinated at the COVID-19 vaccination clinic in NRG Park, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo are calling for increased federal support for the site.

“Today I am writing to respectfully request the continued support of the COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center (CVC) at NRG Park in Harris County. CVC successfully distributed 6,000 doses of vaccine a day, 7 days a week, in late February, and helped reduce racial and geographic disparities in vaccine distribution in Harris County and Houston. Its continued operation is essential to vaccinate residents of Harris County and the city of Houston as soon as possible, “the joint statement said.

The clinic, which was launched on February 24, was scheduled to be on site for six weeks. Now, Turner and Hidalgo are asking for continued support until at least May 31, 2021.

Before the clinic opened, organizers said at least they expected the federal site to vaccinate 126,000 people. The mega-site should greatly increase your chances of getting photographed soon.

At the request of Turner and Hidalgo, as of March 21, 12.1% of the population of Harris County – aged 16 and over has been completely vaccinated.
