Apple removes “Siri Remote” from tvOS 14.5 Beta, renames “Home” button

Apple today released the fifth beta version of tvOS 14.5 and there are some small but notable changes in the update found by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser. Apple removes the mention of “Siri Remote” and replaces it with “Apple TV Remote” in the operating system.

The ‌Siri‌ remote has always been the ‌Apple TV‌ remote in countries where ‌Siri‌ functionality is not available on ‌Apple TV‌, but now Apple uses the formulation ‌Apple TV‌ Remote in countries where the remote was previously called the ‌Siri‌ remote.

This may just be a general cleanup of the language, as it no longer needs to be called the ‌Siri‌ remote control, but suggests that the next-generation ‌Apple TV‌ remote control will not be called the ‌Siri‌ remote control and will have a simpler name. .

It is rumored that Apple is working on a new version of “Apple TV” which will be launched this year and will be accompanied by a remote control refreshed with Find My functions. Little else is known about the remote control at this time.

tvOS 14.5 also renames “Start Button” in the “Remote Control and Devices” section to “TV Button”, but the functionality is ultimately the same and can be set to go to the TVApple TV the app or the home screen . And this could be a change made for a future remote control.

There is also an optional “Type to ‌Siri‌” accessibility feature that can be turned on, which reflects the Type to “Siri” feature on iOS devices, a new option to choose “Other wireless speakers” as the default audio output, and changes to the Podcasts application to bring it in line with the changes introduced in iOS 14.5.
