Nerf gun: real weapon disguised as a toy found during a drug attack

The Glock 19 pistol, along with a 50-round drum magazine, was painted blue and orange and labeled with the Nerf logo to look like a toy, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook press release.
Police said they have seized 20 weapons.

The firearm was among the 20 pistols – pistols, rifles and shotguns – that investigators found during the search on Wednesday, along with cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms and marijuana. Police also seized about $ 2,300 in cash.

Firearms of this type, while not illegal to own, are of concern to law enforcement, the release said. “Firearms are generally often confiscated in conjunction with searches involving large amounts of narcotics.”

Damien Alonzo Burch, 35, of Catawba was arrested and charged with criminal possession of cocaine, criminal possession of mushrooms and felony possession of marijuana, the version said.

CNN is trying to reach him or a lawyer representing him for comment.

Catawba County Sheriff’s spokesman, Captain Aaron Turk, said Burch was released on Wednesday with a $ 20,000 unsecured bond. Burch was formally notified of the charges against him at a first appearance in Catawba district court on Thursday.

Turk said he did not know when Burch’s next court date is and whether he will be represented by a lawyer. He said the investigators have no motive as to why the gun looks like a Nerf toy.
