Another 467 COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths, over 25K vaccines reported Saturday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Health reports another 467 confirmed cases of COVID-19, two more deaths and another 25,861 vaccines administered in the state.

Overall, this brings Utah to 381,254 confirmed cases, 2,060 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,137,046 vaccines administered since the beginning of the pandemic.

Currently, 160 Utahns are hospitalized because of COVID-19, including 57 in intensive care, the health department reported on Saturday. Currently, the state uses about 75% of its intensive care capacity.

Saturday’s numbers come with 14,990 additional tests, officials said.

In the last week, the state has an average of 469 new cases per day and a positive test above the test rate of 4.1%. One month ago, Utah made an average of 779 cases a day.

The deaths reported on Saturday were of two men aged between 65 and 84 who were hospitalized when they died. One was from Davis County and the other was from Weber County, the health department said.

On Wednesday, March 24, Utah will open vaccination programming for every Utah adult who wants one. The vaccine is currently only available for Utahns over the age of 50 and for those with certain underlying health conditions.

The opening takes place as the state anticipates the end of its mask mandate on April 10. Many companies and local authorities still weigh their own mask requirements.
