Russia wants relations with the US, but without ignoring Biden’s words

Russia wants to continue relations with the United States, but cannot ignore the words of US President Joe Biden, who called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin a “murderer” in a recent interview, the Kremlin said today.

With regard to Russia, the president has made it clear that despite everything there is a desire to continue relations between the two countries because it is something that responds not only to the interests of our two nations, but of the entire world. Spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, said during his daily press conference.

He then added that Moscow “cannot ignore Mr Biden’s words either”.

Peskov responded in this way to a question about the possibility of a new “cold war” between the two countries after the US president’s statements during an interview with ABC released Wednesday.

“We always rely on the best, but we are prepared for the worst,” he added.

Putin invited Biden for a phone call the day before this Friday or next Monday after the US president’s strong statements.

“I wouldn’t leave it for later. I want to travel the weekend to rest a bit in the taiga. So it could be tomorrow or Monday. We’re ready to do it at a time that suits the Americans”, Putin said in the Rossía television channel 24.

The Kremlin spokesman said this Friday that “the talk will not take place today,” but there is the possibility of Monday or any other day that suits both parties.

Regarding the format of the conversation, he indicated that it can be conducted via videoconference and can be public. Although Russia also shuffles other formats.

“Biden’s words (about Putin) were unprecedented, so we cannot rule out an unprecedented form of conversation (between the presidents),” said the Kremlin spokesman.
