Bill Gates wants to do his part to try to reduce the impact of a warming planet. He has just published a book on climate change. It seems to have changed parts of its life to reduce carbon emissions.

In the latest Gates Ask Me Anything session on Reddit on Friday, a user asked Microsoft co-founder what people can do to reduce their carbon emissions. Among other things, he recommended that people consume less.

Another user answered by asking what he does to consume less.

“Personally, I do a lot more,” Gates wrote. “I drive electric cars. I have solar panels at home. I eat synthetic meat (sometimes!). I buy green fuel for aviation. I pay for direct air capture by Climeworks. I help fund electric heat pumps in homes to replace natural gas.”

In November, Gates appeared in the headlines after predicting that more than half of all business trips would disappear after the coronavirus pandemic. On Friday, he showed how this could manifest itself in his own program.

“I’m going to fly a lot less now, when the pandemic has shown that we can solve with fewer trips,” he wrote. Microsoft is creating the Teams app that allows employees to chat and meet video calls. While Gates resigned from Microsoft’s board last year, he remains a Microsoft investor and is still reviewing the products the company is developing.

Gates also mentioned the programs he is involved with to encourage environmental efforts.

“We created Breakthrough Energy, including the Venture, Fellows and Catalyst fund to help the climate,” he wrote. “For me, innovation is what will make it possible to provide services to everyone without emissions.”
