Vice President Raquel Peña said on Wednesday that the Dominican Republic is once again very happy and sees hope and light at the end of the tunnel, in the fight against the new coronavirus.
His words come after the arrival of millions of vaccines bought from the Chinese company Sinovac, and the donation of 50 thousand vaccinations made by that country. In addition, 51,200 syringes were donated.
“We want to thank ROC for allowing the arrival of one million Sinovac vaccines and 50,000 donations from Sinopharm. It is a show of China’s solidarity with the Dominican Republic, “the vice president said this afternoon at Las Americas International Airport.
The vice-president said that they guaranteed “that from tomorrow we will continue the whole plan that we have executed, so that we can vaccinate the population as soon as possible, as the president promised”.
Peña said they will continue to work to get more vaccines in the Dominican Republic, as promised by President Luis Abinader. He insisted on thanking the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the country for the facilities in his country to make it possible for vaccines to arrive.
He said he is waiting for export permits from China to receive a new shipment of one million doses, but he expects them to arrive before the end of the month.
“We want to continue working with the Dominican government and achieve the final victory against the virus,” the Chinese ambassador said.
With this lot received on Wednesday, the country reaches a total of one million 868 thousand vaccines, the Chinese being the largest amount received. The other side was from India.
The event was attended by the Chinese ambassador to the country, Zhang Run; Minister of Health, Daniel Rivera; the director general of the National Police, Major General Edward Sánchez P, as well as Jesús Feris Iglesias, responsible for the special projects of the Health Cabinet.
In addition, General Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez, Director of the CESAC Specialized Airport Security and Civil Aviation Corps, and General Luis Ballester and other officials were present.
