The Secretary General of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Charlie Mariotti, said that this party will focus “at this moment” on the internal renewal of its organizations and not on the political opposition to the government of President Luis Abinader.
“Everything has to go its way, there are priorities that we have to guarantee. We have a call from Congress, a mandate from our bases, a mandate from the members of the central committee and there we will focus (on renewal),” he explained. former senator from Monte Plata.
Mariotti said that obviously this process will come and stressed that PLD is a party with “real” chances of returning to power in 2024 and that at the moment it is “the main opposition party”.
“There is a current political opposition, from one day to the next, that will affect us all, we are all spokesmen. Now, the main lines, the central lines, are drawn up by the political committee … then we have to wait, we have to we are waiting, but that does not mean that we will not oppose, there is an extended political committee and extended means more spokesmen “, added Mariotti.
The statements of the newly elected general secretary came after the end of the first meeting of the PLD political committee with its extended registration, which lasted about four and a half hours.
At that meeting, it was decided to set up several commissions to appoint the heads of the various internal secretaries of the purple party. These commissions will be under Mariotti’s coordination. They also announced that this process will take about a month.
The PLD general secretary also reported that “political committee meetings will cease to be news”, as it will be customary for them to meet “at least” once a month.
The meeting, which began at approximately 10:15 in the morning, was chaired by the former President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, who before going to the office of the Secretary General, who was classified by Mariotti as a “good sign”.
