“Harry talked to his brother and he talked to his father as well. The word I gave myself was that those conversations weren’t productive. But he’s glad they started at least one conversation,” King said in Tuesday’s edition of “This Morning.”
During the couple’s interview with Winfrey, Harry said that his relationship with both men had practically broken down – acknowledging that he rarely spoke to William and that Charles, his father and heir to the British throne, had stopped calling her at some point.
King also suggested that the couple was disappointed by Buckingham Palace’s response to their interview.
“I think what still upsets them is that the palace keeps saying they want to solve the problem privately … but I still think there are false stories that are still very contemptuous against Meghan,” she said.
“No one in the royal family he was still talking to Meghan at this time and I think it is frustrating for them to see that it is a racial conversation about the royal family, when all they wanted all the time was for the kings to intervene and tell the press to stop with unfair, inaccurate false stories that certainly have a racial bias, “King added.
The presenter also said that both Harry and Meghan want to “go ahead” and see “healing in this family”.
Harry and Meghan’s interview sent Buckingham Palace in a queue and sparked a nationwide debate over royalty, race and the role of the media in perpetuating xenophobia.
Asked by a reporter during a visit to a school in East London last week if the family members were a “racist family”, the Duke of Cambridge said: “We are not a racist family”.
In response to a question about whether he had spoken to his brother since the interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince William said, “I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will.”
