PRM officials and legislators proclaim their support for the inclusion of the three cases in the Criminal Code

A group of officials and lawmakers of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) on Friday expressed support for including the termination of pregnancy, in three cases, in the Dominican Penal Code.

This contingent of the ruling party has proclaimed its support in front of the National Palace, together with the protesters of the Coalition for Women’s Rights and Life, who have been protesting for this cause since last Thursday afternoon.

At the meeting, the senator for the national district, Faride Raful, expressed his solidarity for the three reasons with the protesters, stating that their decriminalization is something they have been looking for since then before occupying the positions they hold now.

“As leaders of the Modern Revolutionary Party, in a case with which we have been engaged before coming to government and before reaching our elective positions … We call on our colleagues in the party to assume their position official. In which we are committed to guaranteeing the life, health and dignity of women by including the three reasons in the penal code “ expressed the national district senator.

He also read a manifesto which he said was signed by other PRM members, where they reiterated their support for the issue.

“We are fully aware of the transformations we want to make in this country, in favor of girls and women,” she said.

In the document read, he urged other lawmakers in Congress to guarantee women’s rights by decriminalizing abortion for three reasons, saying the current Congress “cannot fail” on this issue.

The Minister of Women, Mayra Jiménez, was one of the officials who expressed her support for the inclusion of the three cases in favor of abortion in the Criminal Code.

“As an entity of the Dominican state responsible for promoting women’s rights, equality and inclusion from the outset, we support the three cases in the Criminal Code and we did so because it is a matter of law and also because this society has a long-standing debt to women, “ Jimenez said.

She explained that the Ministry of Women is in line with its role and the position of President Luis Abinader in favor of the three cases, “It is an issue that affects rights that affect values and therefore generates levels of conflict,” the official said, referring to the fact that Dominican society supports “largely” the three causes.

The three pro-abortion cases these women are fighting for to be included in the Criminal Code are:

1. When pregnancy is the product of rape or incest.

2. When the mother’s life is in danger.

3. When he has a congenital malformation incompatible with extrauterine life.

The young woman, Rosa Fernández, who is part of the group of women protesting outside the national palace, said that if the three cases were not included in the Criminal Code, there would be circumstances that will generate trauma for women, “It’s about our dignity, our life and our health.”

For your part, Angela Liliano, “We have the right to life, we must not ask anyone for permission to live, my right to life is my right, period … Rights are not negotiated, we have the right to live the three causes are life because our lives have value . ”

Protesters said they would continue to be stationed there until they received answers from the government. They also grouped on social networks under the Instagram account @ rd3causales where they propose a series of activities such as dance and poetry during the vigil that will continue this Friday evening.
