The new Mario Kart speedrunning craze is called “Blue Yourself” and it’s a laugh

A THEFT

Tobias Fünke really has to listen when he speaks. But he came with a nice expression, so we’ll let her slip.

You guessed it: the new mania for speedrunning Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which is still a very successful game, with over 33 million sales under the belt) is called “Blue Yourself”. This involves trying to hit a blue shell as fast as possible and there is fierce competition right now in Mario Kart community.

To accomplish this task, you will purchase growth items, you will hang strategically so that the chances of getting a blue shell are high, then you will grow fast forward and you will be “blue” with the blue shell. There are chances involved, but given how fast the races are, it’s not crazy. The whole process takes about 40 seconds or less.

Recently, YouTuber Skilloz (below) broke the GsFlint world record, which was set at 39.56 seconds. Skilloz managed to slip under a decent chunk of extra time, clocking 37.89 seconds with Baby Peach.

I think one of the most virtuous aspects of the speedrunning community is when people form new parameters and stay with them as a group. “All the treasures of dogs” are running Wild breath are proof of this.
