Food chain Kroger plans to deliver 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine per week

One of the largest supermarket chains in the country is stepping up its efforts to deliver up to one million COVID-19 vaccinations a week to its pharmacies, clinics and through external events.

Officials with Kroger Co. intends to use the first hour of pharmacy operations each day to focus on administering the three FDA-approved vaccines, according to a report in the industry trade publication Progressive Grocer.

Kroger Co. operates multi-name grocery stores in 35 states, including more than 100 stores in Southeast Texas and Louisiana.

Patients will still be able to book appointments throughout the day, but the “concentration time” in the morning will allow more doses of vaccine to be given, company officials said. In addition to in-store vaccinations, the food chain plans to hold 100 mass vaccination events abroad this month.

Last month, Kroger joined other retailers to provide incentives to his employees to obtain the COVID-19 vaccine. Members are eligible for a one-time payment of $ 100 if they demonstrate that they have received the full doses recommended by the manufacturer for a vaccine.
