After launch of the FPS Boost function in February with a handful of games, Microsoft has announced that five more games, all from Bethesda, will soon enjoy FPS Boost support.
This news comes from the last episode of The official Xbox podcast. In the opening section, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb of Xbox Live and Xbox Chief Communications Manager Jeff Rubenstein discussed Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Bethesda. To celebrate the business, a lot of new Bethesda games have been added to the Game Pass. But what fascinated me most was that five Bethesda games in service will soon receive FPS Boost support, a feature that allows older games to run at higher framerates on the Xbox Series X and Series S.
The five games in question are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and Dishonored: Final Edition.
Something interesting, if you care about these things, is that Fallout 4 was one of the first games I saw using FPS Boost before the new position has an official name. In a short video provided without much context last October, Microsoft introduced Fallout 4 runs at 60 frames per second. While Xbox gamers may already be using game mode support to get similar performance increases, it will eventually be an official feature soon.
The podcast did not give a specific date for when to expect this latest game harvest to receive FPS Boost support. Looks like it could happen when next big Xbox Series X / S update launches, which will add settings to the game, allowing players to switch Auto HDR and FPS Boost to games that support it.

I recently checked FPS Boost and he left impressed major. It made older games feel more modern and playable without the need for additional modifications or downloads. I’m excited to see what it’s like Fallout 76 will run with FPS Boost, as its performance on consoles is notoriously poor. But now that Fallout 76 it’s pretty good, it would be great to see it work better on next generation Xbox consoles.
