The Japanese Ministry of Health says eight more people developed severe allergic symptoms after receiving a coronavirus vaccination.
The condition called anaphylaxis has been reported in eight health workers between the ages of 20 and 50.
Medical institutions reported that the eight male and female workers were inoculated Tuesday through Wednesday with the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.
They later had symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and headache, but all have recovered since then.
All eight are either allergic to certain foods and medications, or have pre-existing conditions such as asthma and diabetes. A group of experts from the Ministry of Health intends to study the correlation on Friday.
A total of 148,915 health workers in Japan were vaccinated on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m.
Anaphylaxis has been reported in 25 people. It is about one in 6,000 of those who were inoculated.
