The announcement of the next phase of the launch of the coronavirus vaccine could appear this week

HOUSTON – An announcement of the next phase of people who will be eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine could be made this week.

According to Douglas Loveday, a press officer for the Texas Department of Health Services, the announcement of who will be included in Group 1C could come immediately after this week.

This would add to those already eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phases 1A and 1B. These phases include front-line care workers, nursing home residents, anyone 65 or older, anyone 16 and older with comorbidities, and some education and child care workers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended that people working in transport and logistics, food services, housing construction and financing, information technology, communications, energy, law, media, public safety and public health be included in phase 1C. The final decision is left to the health officials of each state.

Texas health officials say they expect to receive more than 1 million first doses of the vaccine this week.

Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, said Monday that more than half of the state’s seniors had been shot.

President Joe Biden said there should be enough doses to vaccinate every American adult by the end of May.
