Tourist income is reduced by more than 50%

The entry of Dominican passengers and tourists through international airports has decreased by more than 50% in the first two months of this year compared to the same period of 2020 due to the crisis caused by Covid-19 in commercial aviation, tourism and the economy.

According to data from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) in January 2020, 640,629 passengers entered the Dominican international airports and 705,061 travelers left during the same period.

In February 2020, 719,550 passengers arrived via Las Américas and Gregorio Luperón, from Puerto Plata and other airport terminals, while 756,181 travelers left.

In the same period, but this year, the influx of domestic and foreign travelers to the country has decreased dramatically.

Aerodom statistics indicate that through international airports, the number of travelers dropped by 51.1% in January this year compared to the same period in 2020.

In January 2020, Gregorio Luperón, Joaquín Balaguer de El Higu¨ero and Professor Juan Bosch from Samaná mobilized 587,889 passengers via Las Américas, compared to only 287,728 in January of this year.

That meant a decrease of more than 51.1% in air traffic due to the effects of the Covid-19 corona virus.

Statistics show that in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, 10,569 cargo flights were operated by Aerodom-operated airports. Of which 5,276 arrived and 5,293 departed for the United States and other destinations.
