Joan Laporta is optimistic that Lionel Messi will remain put at Barcelona.
The newly elected president is back in office after 11 years and is already focusing on finding a way to keep the Argentine at the club.
“Today marks 20 years since a boy named Leo Messi made his debut with Barcelona’s Infantil B [U12-13] team,” Laporte he said after his victory. “Seeing the best player in the world come to the polls with his son is an example of what I said.
“Leo loves Barcelona. This is the reflex. The best player in the world loves Barcelona.
“We hope this will help him stay in Barcelona. That’s what we want.”
The president spoke shortly after announcing his victory and began by thanking all members of the club.
Laporta also thanked his campaign team and volunteers for their role in its success, as well as thanked the media for covering the election.
