They arrest a Dominican who was transporting 1,600 kilos of cocaine in Puerto Rico

Agents of the United Rapid Action Forces (FURA) of the Puerto Rico Police Department seized about $ 40 million of cocaine worth about $ 40 million during an operation this Sunday in Yabucoa, a municipality on the island’s east coast. in which two people were arrested, one of Venezuelan nationality and one Dominican.

The shipment found included 80 bales of 1,600 kilos of cocaine, during an operation on El Cocal de Yabucoa beach, in which two foreigners were detained, according to a statement by police commissioner Antonio López.

The operation was in charge of agents from FURA’s intelligence department and was carried out today at 5:50 AM.

The two men, with undefined immigration status, are not currently identified and only their nationality is known.

One of those arrested was carrying a firearm, according to the official.

During a patrol operation, FURA officers observed a boat stranded on the beach with bales suspected of being drugs, so they intervened, confirming it to be cocaine.

20 blocks of the drug were hidden in each of the 80 bundles.

The 1,600 blocks weighed about 1,600 kilograms in total with a black market value of $ 38.4 million.

“We are actively working to strengthen surveillance of our shores and continue our fight against the drug trade in Puerto Rico,” said López.

FURA was part of the operation with the support of Maritime Unit agents who arrived by sea.

This case will be heard by a United States federal agency, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In Puerto Rico, seizures of cocaine and other drugs have increased in recent years from South America via the Dominican Republic.

The drug, once in Puerto Rico, is very easy to transfer to the United States as it is a Commonwealth of the United States island and is under control for the transportation of merchandise to the North American nation.
