Austin, Texas – The number of coronavirus cases and deaths from the disease is rising in Texas, according to data from Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
The seven-day average of new cases in the state in the last two weeks has increased from 5,040.8 per day to 7,022.7, and the average number of daily deaths has increased by 127 daily to 222. The average running rate is also increasing over the same period, from 5.8% on 19 February to 12.5% on 5 March.
The state health department reported on Saturday 4,713 recently confirmed or probable cases and 233 additional deaths caused by COVID-19 for a total of 44,367 people since the beginning of the pandemic.
There have been more than 2.3 million confirmed cases of the virus in Texas since the pandemic began a year ago.
