570 COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths, 26,098 vaccinations reported on the anniversary of the Utah state of emergency

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose 570 on Saturday, with five more deaths and 26,098 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The day marked a year since Utah declared a state of emergency for the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s first confirmed case.

According to the health department, the average number of positive cases per day per day is now 527. The positive daily test rate for that period compared to the “people over people” method is now 9.5%. The positive seven-day average test rate calculated using the ‘test-by-test’ method is now 4.6%.

There are 194 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 77 in intensive care, state data show. About 71.5% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are occupied, including 74.8% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 54.2% of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied, according to the health department.

A total of 843,032 vaccines were administered in the state, up from 816,934 on Friday. A total of 546,814 people received at least one dose of vaccine, while 304,168 were completely vaccinated, according to the health department. A total of 1,005,715 vaccines have now been delivered to Utah.

Of the 2,243,694 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah to date, 16.7% tested positive for the disease. The total number of tests performed since the onset of the pandemic is now 3,903,480, up 18,594 on Friday.

The five deaths reported on Saturday include:

  • A woman in Salt Lake County over the age of 85 who was not hospitalized at the time of her death
  • A woman from Salt Lake County who is between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized at the time of her death
  • A man from Weber County between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized at the time of his death
  • A resident of Salt Lake County between the ages of 25 and 44 and was hospitalized at the time of his death
  • A woman from Uintah County between the ages of 45 and 64 and was hospitalized at the time of her death

Saturday’s totals give Utah 374,438 confirmed cases in total, with 14,867 total hospitalizations and 1,975 total deaths from the disease. A total of 358,249 cases in Utah COVID-19 are now considered recovered, health department data show

Utah Governor Spencer Cox announced at a news conference Thursday that eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine will be extended to Utahns aged 50 and over, as well as state residents with more basic health conditions.
