SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose 549 on Friday, with five more deaths and 31,411 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Currently, there are an estimated 14,586 active cases of the disease in Utah, according to the health department. According to the Department of Health, the average number of positive cases per day for seven days is now 543. The positive daily test rate for that period compared to the “people over people” method is now 9.8%. The positive seven-day average test rate calculated using the ‘test-by-test’ method is now 4.6%.
There are 203 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 85 in intensive care, state data show. About 72% of all intensive care beds in Utah are occupied, including 74% of intensive care beds in 16 state reference hospitals. About 55 percent of non-ICU hospital beds are occupied, according to the health department.
A total of 816,934 vaccines were administered in the state, up from 785,523 on Thursday. A total of 529,871 people received at least one dose of vaccine, while 291,003 were completely vaccinated, according to the health department. A total of 990,790 vaccines have now been delivered to Utah.
The new figures indicate a 0.1% increase in positive cases on Thursday. Of the 2,236,642 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah to date, 16.7% tested positive for the disease or for it. The total number of tests performed since the pandemic began is now 3,884,886, up 16,934 on Thursday. Of these, 6,601 were tests in people who had not been previously tested for COVID-19, according to the health department.
The five deaths reported on Friday include:
- A man from Cache County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and a resident of a long-term care institution
- A woman from Cache County who was between 65 and 84 years old and a resident of a long-term care institution
- A man from Salt Lake County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
- A Utah County woman between the ages of 65 and 84 living in a long-term care facility
- A woman from Weber County, aged between 65 and 84, who lived in a long-term care facility
One of the deaths reported on Friday took place before February 12, but was still being investigated by state doctors, according to the health department.
Friday’s totals give Utah 373,868 confirmed cases in total, with 14,841 total hospitalizations and 1,970 total deaths from the disease. A total of 357,312 cases in Utah COVID-19 are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox offered a COVID-19 update at a news conference Thursday.
