The father was arrested in India for beheading his 17-year-old daughter

Sarvesh Kumar was arrested on his way to a police station in Hardoi district on Wednesday night, wearing the severed head of his 17-year-old daughter.

“He was walking to the police station to confess what he did,” a Hardoi police spokesman told CNN on Friday.

“He told police he saw his daughter with a young man he thinks he saw, which angered him as he was against her,” the spokesman added.

While Kumar, a vegetable seller in the village of Pandetara, was walking a mile from his home to the police station, local passers-by alerted the police, who stopped him and began filming him.

Meanwhile, according to a police spokesman, Kumar told authorities about his daughter’s relationship, saying he found her alone at home, locked her in a room and cut off her head with a knife.

“Given the situation, he was calm. He was not crying or hysterical. When the police spoke to him, they asked him to put his daughter’s head on the ground and sit down, which she listened to without arguing back.” a police spokesman told CNN.

Kumar is currently in custody, where he continues to be heard, the spokesman added. A list of fees will be compiled after the investigation is completed. He will have access to a public lawyer after he is officially charged and will remain in custody until trial, police said.
