Bill Magness, president and CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), was canceled by the organization’s board of directors after an emergency meeting Wednesday night.

What is happening in Texas and Mississippi has to stop

In a statement to CNN, ERCOT said the board of directors “instructed the company secretary to exercise the 60-day notice period” to Magness in accordance with the employee agreement. He will continue to serve as president and CEO during this transition period, the statement said.

Five board members had previously resigned after the storms.

ERCOT expects to immediately seek a new president and CEO, the statement said. The next ERCOT board meeting is currently scheduled for April 13.

At least 80 people in 11 states died from weather-related issues, according to a CNN census. At least 47 of the weather-related deaths were reported in Texas.
