Zynga acquires Echtra Games | GamesIndustry.biz

Zynga announced today that it has acquired the developer Torchlight 3 Echtra Games.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Founded in 2016, Echtra of San Francisco has so far delivered only one game, Torchlight 3 last year.

However, Zynga’s statement made it clear that the company’s interest was supported by the pedigree of developers such as Echtra founder Max Schaefer, who worked on the first two Diablo games and all three Torchlight titles.

“Max and his team at Echtra Games are responsible for some of the most legendary gameplay properties ever created and are experts in action-packed RPGs and cross-platform development,” said Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau.

He added: “This acquisition will be key to growing our iconic licenses and brands from mobile to PCs and consoles, while helping to further expand Zynga’s total addressable market.”

First, Echtra will be collaborating with Zynga NaturalMotion studio colleagues on “a new RPG that has not yet been announced for cross-platform games.”

A Zynga representative said GamesIndustry.biz there would be no redundancies associated with the acquisition.

Zynga president of the Bernard Kim publishing house said GamesIndustry.biz last month, the company planned to continue its series of acquisitions, after finding success in recent years, adding developers such as Gram Games, Small Giant, Peak Games and Rollic.

“We remain aggressive and curious about buying more game studios and technology companies that we believe can be added to Zynga,” Kim said.
