The opinions expressed by the collaborators from Entrepreneur they are personal.
One of the issues we need to address urgently is integrating the physical, mental and emotional health agenda into teams led or made up of women, especially in this new environment, because, according to the OAS Inter-American Commission on Women (CIM), due to the effects of the pandemic, one in four high-ranking women is considering reducing their work responsibilities, abandoned or completely for work.
It would have a big impact on both companies and their own companies. Consider that, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), if Latin American countries have a female labor force share, GDP per capita can increase by up to 10%
Strengthening a work culture for better well-being should have a direct impact on retaining jobs in teams formed and led by women. Consider the survey conducted by the International Labor Organization (ILO) among 13,000 companies in 70 countries, which was published in May 2019: 60% of participating companies reported that they increased their profitability by up to 20% thanks to the work of women in managerial positions, in addition to improving key indicators such as creativity, performance and attracting new talent, which are key elements for triggering and channeling innovation.
International Women’s Day It allows strategic areas of companies, such as Human Resources or directorates-general themselves, to reflect and establish high-impact actions from a higher welfare work culture.
In the case of Gympass, this year it offered us several lessons and tools to strengthen, precisely, this culture:
Well-being must be on the agenda
Companies need to recognize the challenge they face. In a survey of almost 400 women around the world, conducted by Deloitte Consulting, 82% have impacts as a result of a change in routine: impact on physical well-being and inability to balance personal and work commitments. In the same study, 45% of women believe that companies should promote mental health programs, while 44% believe it is necessary to have physical health plans.
The approach should be more and more comprehensive, either from hybrid schemes, with face-to-face activities and others online. Betting on a single type of activity in a single location will be less and less efficient, even in aspects that the company might be interested in promoting, such as emotional pay. The trend we see is that companies interested in this wellness agenda should focus on flexibility, because, just as remote work can be done, so will health care options: with solutions that meet people’s needs. , in their day.
The home office, the integration of remote teams, the adaptation to technological platforms, hybrid models are just some of the things that are already part of our daily lives. Another example of the need for rapid adaptation and the need to leave behind “I’ve always done that.”
Innovation and growth are the focus of many companies today. Changes in the structures, leadership and management methods we have become accustomed to have led to better talent management, which in turn involves rethinking aspects that have not been considered before, such as the importance of emotions or stress reduction. , through various tools that can range from applications to an exercise plan with personal trainers to breathing exercises.
Monitor the work environment continuously
Human resources play a key role in the new working environment of companies for parameters, parameters, processes and initiatives that trigger healthier, more egalitarian, respectful and harmonious working environments. Fortunately, they have different allies and technologies that can be chosen to strengthen a better environment, such as increasing the frequency of sending impulse surveys, a questionnaire to employees to obtain information about health and well-being. It is fast, simple and reliable, it provides data on aspects such as the work environment and communication, which allows a positive and continuous transformation of the environment.
