SALT LAKE CITY – Gov. Spencer Cox said Utah will begin receiving the newly approved Johnson & Johnson vaccine on Wednesday.
“So many have suffered from this pandemic,” Cox said. “A third licensed vaccine tells me that, even in some of the darkest times, miracles still happen.”
The vaccine is licensed for people 18 years of age and older, but vaccines in Utah will be distributed according to eligibility standards already in place, according to the Cox office.
The Utah Department of Health is working to correct an error that allowed 7,200 ineligible Utahns to schedule vaccine schedules.
“An error in the Vaccinate.Utah.Gov registration system has allowed Utah residents who are not currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to schedule meetings,” the department said in a statement. “Approximately 7,200 people who do not meet the eligibility requirements were able to make appointments.”
Ineligible appointments will be canceled within the next 24 hours, according to the statement, and email notifications will be sent to those who have been canceled.
Several people have found out about the error on social networks and have already canceled their appointments, health officials said.
“We apologize for this error and for any confusion it caused. The eligibility criteria for COVID-19 vaccine can be found at coronavirus.utah / gov / vaccine,” the statement said.
Those who believe that their appointment has been canceled by mistake should contact the health department where they scheduled their meeting or try to schedule their appointment online.
