Frogwares says he did not create the version of the Lovecraftian detective game currently available on Steam
The developer of Sinking City, Frogwares, said that the version of his game currently on Steam was not made by Frogwares.
One tweet posted today and distributed in the game’s news feed on Steam, Frogwares asks users not to buy the game.
“Frogwares did not create the version of [The Sinking City] which is on sale today on [Steam]. We do not recommend purchasing this version. More news coming soon, “the statement said.
The studio did not publish any additional updates at the time of writing. I contacted both the developer and the publisher, Nacon, for comments.
The city of Sinking was taken off the shelves by Frogwares amid a legal dispute between the studio and Nacon in August 2020, after claiming that Nacon – the former Big Ben Interactive – violated several clauses of the licensing agreement for the game and is owed Frogwares around 1 million in payments.
It was returned to digital platforms last month following a decision by the Paris Court of Appeal, which Frogwares had “stopped”. [its] contract in a “manifestly illegal” manner. “
In a statement last week, coinciding with the release of The Sinking City on PlayStation 5, Frogwares said it was both the developer and publisher of the PS5 version, but the PS4 version had a separate editor and different game IDs due to “a DC legal and technical situation, “preventing an update of the platform for PS4 owners.
The Sinking City is currently available for sale on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop and various PC showcases, including Steam.
