Francisco Lindor is proud to belong to the Mets

Remember the BoriMets era?

Francisco Lindor he remembers very well and would like to form a new version of it.

“There was a time when in every Puerto Rican league you went to, there was a team called the Mets because there were a lot of Puerto Ricans there. I hope this is a new era, with many teams in Puerto Rico being called the Mets, ”Lindor said at a team press conference using Zoom Tools.

The Puerto Rican shortstop, acquired by the Mets earlier this year, attended Monday’s second training camp with the team and spoke to the news media about questions about his brief stint in the organization, economic expectations and communication with team players, which include discussions with rescuer Naguabe Edwin “Sugar” Diaz and the San Juan receiver Thomas Nidor, with whom he played with Lindor as a child in Puerto Rico.

Lindor said he remembers the Mets era well, having Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran, as well as left-back Pedro Feliciano, receiver Ramon Castro and Tony Valentin and Ruben Gotay. The team won 97 games in 2006 and reached a seventh game in the National Series Championship League.

Lindor was then 13 years old.

“I remember when I was little, seeing Beltrán, Alex Cora, Baerga, Alomar – Roberto and Santos, the son – in the Mets,” Lindor added.

She was Puerto Rican in the Mets from 2006 to 2009 and had other players such as Cora, Omir Santos and Nelson Figueroa.

I didn’t say anything. We have plenty of time for that. Obviously, I need to know the organization and its people and for them to know me. If anything comes up, I’ll talk to my agent. I think it’s too early to talk

Lindor has been asked several times about his negotiations with the Mets because it is anticipated that if the organization acquired him from Cleveland before he became a free agent, it is because he wants to establish a long relationship with the player.

Lindor replied that there are currently no negotiations and that it is the right time for the organization to meet him and vice versa.

“I did not say anything. We have plenty of time for that. Obviously, I need to know the organization and its people and for them to know me. If anything comes up, I’ll talk to my agent. I think it’s too early to talk, “he said.

During the negotiations, Lindor was questioned by the media about the recent signing of San Diego Padres Dominican Fernando Tatis Jr., who has just signed a 14-year, $ 340 million contract. The conversation about Tatis was related to Lindor, because it is understood that the Puerto Rican can get a similar contract with the Mets.

Lindor replied that he is satisfied with Tatis and the baseball market.

“It simply came to our notice then. He deserves it and shows that the game is going in the right direction, “he replied.

Lindor said his arrival at the spring camps started very well. He explained that he has already begun the process of interacting with his new teammates, both in the field to learn about strengths and weaknesses, and outside of it to establish chemistry and leadership. He added that at this time he did not feel the impact of the pressure that a large market like New York exerts on players.

“We have not yet felt the great experience in the market,” he said.
