With the celebration of a special event on the esplanade of the National Palace, in which President Luis Abinader will give the flag of honor, the 42nd edition of the Independence Cycling Tour will be inaugurated this Monday at 10:00, an event that will eight international teams and 10 national teams will participate, which will be in open dispute for the positions of the main team.
The National Palace esplanade will be the setting for Abinader to start one of America’s most important cycling events and become the first president to do so since Leonel Fernández led the country in 2012.
Along with Abinader, the main directors of Dominican sport are expected to participate, the president of the Dominican Cycling Federation, Jorge Blas Díaz; Samuel Pereyra, BanReservas Administrator; Plutarco Arias, Minister of Health; Olympic Committee President Antonio Acosta and National District Mayor Carolina Mejía, among others.
Ismael Sánchez will look to win the Vuelta Independencia for the fifth time (2012-2016-2017 and 2020), but as always will have strong competition, as another 120 riders will go behind the seat, including Roniel Campos, from Venezuela, winner Just a month ago of the famous Vuelta al Tachira, whose team Team Atlético de Venezuela took the palms in the general test.
