Pro Consumidor warns of three Nissan vehicle models due to airbag defects

The National Institute for Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor) issued a safety alert for Nissan vehicles in three models of its brand, both Patrol (Y61); Pathfinder (R50) and X-Trail (T30), 2001-2004, showing an airbag defect.

The entity reported that the Santo Domingo Motors representative office, the official representative of the Nissan brand in the country, notified the existence of 337 vehicles that could have this damage in the Dominican Republic.

Risks for the driver

Pro Consumidor and Santo Domingo Motors reported that the affected vehicles, in certain heat and humidity conditions, the driver and / or passenger airbag inflator could be subjected to excessive internal pressure, causing a possible breakage.

They pointed out that this failure allows the normal process of activating the airbag in the event of an impact or collision to spread metal components that could cause serious injury to the driver.

Models involved

The consumer protection body called on the owners of the alerted vehicles to contact the company where they purchased it, in order to coordinate the review of these models free of charge.

“Pro Consumidor reiterated its commitment to stay up to date and activate control mechanisms to prevent the sale and consumption of products that are dangerous to the health and safety of Dominicans and in case of doubt about the information in this alert, you can contact our social networks, ”the entity said in a statement.

The state entity stated that the models involved in this alert are Nissan Patrol (Y61), 2001-2004, Nissan Pathfinder (R50), 2002-2003 and Nissan X-Trail (T30), 2001-2004 and that the chassis numbers can be verified on the Pro Consumer Security Alerts section page.
