The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) today announced its “bases” that approved the extension of the opposition party’s political committee to 45 members.
The announcement came in one during the press conference, which took place at the party’s National House.
PLD members said that the organization’s bases voted through a virtual plenary session, which took place between Sunday and this morning,
A total of 1,878 authorized party delegates participated in the vote, out of the 2,667 convened, of which 1,482 (78.91%) would have voted to approve the extension of the registration of that entity. Only 396 people voted no.
One detail to note is that, despite the fact that the plenary session took place in practice, around 30% of the delegates convened to attend did not.
They understand that it is functional
Over the weekend, two current members of the political committee, Reinaldo Pared Pérez and José Tomás Pérez, indicated that bringing the enrollment to 45 would make it a “functioning body”, which was refuted by members of the organizing committee.
Danilo Díaz added that he understands that they have the right to “disagree”, but that they must still respect the choice of the majority.
“This is their right, they can give their opinion. However, within the party’s reorganization plan, each member of the political committee has a province and must submit a report every time it is requested, and there you give functions “, said the PLD leader.
For her part, former Minister of Education Alejandrina Germán says that the political committee will not be functional, although she understands that, given the large number of people she now has, “the central committee will be something impossible to manage”.
Currently, the PLD’s political committee is made up of 35 people, including the president and the secretary general.
