America is involved in a somewhat rare controversy in football, but it is happening
Cruz Azul, Toluca, Puebla, Dorados, are some teams that, like America, woke up in the middle of a controversy over alleged misalignments. In most cases, the clubs were successful, but sanctions were imposed.
In the case of America, the referee is judged, as published by the Disciplinary Commission, and the Eagles could come out with the three points they won in the game against Atlas.
Cruz Azul (closing 2007)
Cruz Azul lost a semifinal against Pachuca in the 2007 Clausura, due to the fact that Salvador Carmona, a player suspended for life for doping, was lined up. Decio de María, then secretary general of the Mexican Football Federation, reported the decision.
Cruz Azul (Closing 2013)
Toluca claimed to be in an inadequate position. The ball looked to have taken a deflection on the way in, but he’s claiming it! The Scarabs lost their commitment on the ground and complained administratively, but the Disciplinary Board ruled that there was “no evidence of misalignment.”
Dorados (2017, Copa Mx)
Dorados de Sinaloa lost a match against Leones Negros, from the Copa Mx, because it seemed to play only with 11 players participating in the first team and not with 12, as stipulated in the competition rules. The Culiacán team was sanctioned with a defeat and a fine of one thousand UMAS.
America (Closing 2017)
Midfielder Gerson Torres was about to make his debut for America, in a game against Pumas in the 2017 Clausura, but he left the team at the last minute. All because the MX League informed the Coapa team that Tico could not participate, because he was registered in the Under 20 and if he did, the Eagles would suffer an inadequate alignment. In 2020, Tico commented in an interview that he did not triumph with Azulcremas, among other things, because of that incident.
Cruz Azul Women (opening 2018)
In the 2018 Apertura, Cruz Azul Femenil was chosen to register Mercedes Rodríguez as technical assistant, on the last day of the championship and despite the fact that she already had activity with another club. The disciplinary commission decided that Celestial Machine lost the match and gave Pumas the victory, a result with which they advanced to the final phase of the tournament.
Xolos (2019, Copa Mx)
In the quarterfinals of the MX Cup, Morelia claimed an improper alignment of Tijuana Xolos, because the border team served 180 minutes of minors with three players and not with two. Despite this, the Mexican football authorities decided that the Xolos team did not suffer any errors.
Women’s Blue Cross (Closing 2019)
Cruz Azul for women again suffered a misalignment in 2019. Due to the fact that they played with three players over the age of 25. In that tournament, the rules stated that four players over the age of 25 could be called up, but only had two on the field. Celestial Machine lost the match 3-0.
Puebla Women (opening 2020)
Puebla Femenil have been embroiled in a controversy over alleged misalignment, as they lined up a 14-year-old goalkeeper, Harumi Cornejo, in a match against Monterrey. Liga MX Femenil clarified that La Franja did not violate the regulations, although the camotero team lost the match on the field anyway.
