595 COVID-19 patients hospitalized; SAWS says 80% of the boiling notification for San Antonio has been lifted

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 and the consequences of winter weather in a briefing Sunday night.

Mayor Nirenberg reported some data received on coronavirus cases in Bexar County. On Saturday, Nirenberg reported 77 cases of coronavirus and no new deaths. However, the low number of cases can be attributed to the lack of state data due to the winter storm last week.

The mayor also reported that 595 patients are hospitalized, down 20 on Saturday, 232 are in the intensive care unit and 137 are on ventilators.

There have been 82 hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, Nirenberg said.

CPS Energy

According to Mayor Nirenberg, all households, except 14, have had their energy restored.

For customers who are worried about their next utility bill, Nirenberg said the power company has suspended automatic payment for all customers at this time.

Customers do not have to call to pay their bill. However, if your automatic payment has already passed, call CPS Energy at 210-353-2222.

San Antonio water system

The CEO of San Antonio Water System, Robert Puente, announced on Sunday during the briefing that 100% of its surface has water.

Around 18:00, Puente said that over 80% of the city is no longer under the approval of boiling water. This means that customers who are authorized for approval no longer have to boil water before consumption.

Those still under the notice of boiling water will be cleaned on Monday, according to Puente.
