It’s time to change
Players in Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition can get their hands on the new V-Shift mechanic for the first time, even later tonight, and now we can all see exactly how it works.
Capcom has now released the SF5 game tutorial for V-Shift and V-Shift Break, which are in full breaks down the new mechanic, including how much damage he does and what happens if he’s stuck.
As previously revealed, both V-Shift and V-Shift Break are performed by pressing a heavy punch and a medium punch together, while a player has at least one stock of V-Gauge available.
What’s new, though, is that this confirms that V-Shift Break attacks will be safe on the block, outside the extended range, so it seems like a fair trade-off just to do recoverable damage.
Speaking of damage, we’ll also see an example of the V-Shift’s combo tracking, which does regular damage.
Not only that, but I tested it to see if dodge attacks will be reduced as soon as V-Trigger activations. However, I can confidentially report that the combo appears to be doing normal, unscaled damage.
The Break attack seems to deal a comparable amount of damage compared to V reversals, no surprise.
V-Shift will be released on SF5 in the Season 5 update, which will be officially available until tomorrow, although the servers will be shut down for maintenance today starting at 20:00 PT.
