What a joke!
Facebook users in Australia gathered on Thursday to parody news content after the social media giant blocked legitimate news from its platform.
The 10 best-performing posts on Australian Facebook pages on Thursday were almost all from satirical sites, according to data from CrowdTangle, a social media information tool owned by Facebook.
List – shared for the first time by Twitter account @ FacebookTop10AU – contained mostly posts from the Australian comedy points The Chaser and Betoota Advocate.
In 5th place was a post from Ozzy Man Reviews, the page of the popular Australian YouTuber Ethan Marrell.
All three comedy pages have previously appeared in the daily rankings of Facebook posts that have garnered the most interactions, followed by FacebookTop10AU cont from Guardian Australia staff, Dave Earley.
However, it doesn’t look like the top posts ever came from the comedy pages alone.
E.g, Wednesday, Ozzy Man Reviews had the post no. 1, but was followed by 7 News Brisbane, 7News Australia and ABC News.
The striking change was probably caused by Facebook’s shocking move to stop Australians from viewing and sharing news on the platform because of laws proposed in the country to make digital giants pay for journalism.
Current users can no longer distribute Australian or international news, and international users outside of Australia can also no longer distribute Australian news.
