REJECTION OF THE CALL FOR REVIEW – JCE ratifies the order of the parties in the ballots

The Plenum of the Central Electoral Council (JCE) maintains unchanged the order given to political parties in the ballot papers, depending on the number of voters each obtained in the last presidential and legislative elections, as well as the distribution of resources.

The decision came after hearing a court jointly presented by the Fuerza del Pueblo, Christian Social Reformist, Dominican Revolutionaries (PRD), Christian Democratic Party, Dominican Green Party (PVD), Liberal Reformist, Civic Renovator, Unidad Nacional (PUN), Force National Progressive Party (FNP), Institutional Democrat (PDI), Christian Democratic Union (UDC) and the Alternative Democratic Party (MODA).

The organizations claimed that the administrative processes had been violated, as well as the principle of favorability to order the parties.

Regulation 01-2021 is ratified in “all its parts”, which states that only the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) have been designated as majority parties, leaving the People’s Force as a minority party after reaching 4 , 54.

The JCE also declared inadmissible the appeal filed on the distribution of the state’s economic contribution to political parties, groups and movements, as well as the reordering of ballots for the 2024 ordinary general elections.

According to resolution 03-2021 issued this evening, the Modern Revolutionary (PRM) and Dominican Liberation (PLD) parties were ratified as the only two majority parties.

While the People’s Force remains a minority party, reaching 4.54%, in combination with the two electoral levels that were contested in the last elections on July 5, in the congress and in the presidential elections.

According to this criterion, PRM remained with 44.95%, PLD with 32.30%, designating JCE those two parties as the only majority parties.

Regarding the distribution of resources, resolution 02-2021 indicates that it will remain unchanged, taking into account the order of the ballots produced by each organization.

In this regard, according to Law 33-2018 on political parties, groups and movements, it is established that 80% of the resources allocated by the Executive Branch to be distributed among political parties will be redistributed equally between these two organizations.

Only those who have exceeded 5% of the votes will receive it. According to this resolution, the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, led by Leonel Fernández, reached only 4.54%, which together with PRD, PRSC, Alianza País and Dominicanos por el Cambio will receive shares equal to 12% of the allocated resources. , remaining as minority parties. The remaining eight percent will be distributed among the 19 parties registered in the JCE that have reached less than 1%.
