Amazon’s smart cuckoo clock.
Amazon
Amazon on Wednesday announced a new program called Build It, which allows consumers to have a say in some of the products that Amazon will produce.
In a Kickstarter-like effort, Amazon customers can choose to support a new product, and if they receive enough support within 30 days, Amazon will build it. Customers will be charged only if the product is developed and delivered.
The program should help Amazon decide which products will be popular before building them. Amazon has used a similar program in the past, called Day 1 Editions, to build experimental products such as Echo Frames smart glasses. Amazon would not say whether it intends to use this program for all of its products or whether it can open it to third-party inventors.

Amazon Build It starts with three concepts: a $ 89.99 smart sticky note printer, a $ 34.99 smart nutrition scale, and a $ 79.99 cuckoo clock. Customers who support a product receive a discount for pre-order. The price will increase if it is widely available.
In recent years, Amazon has launched a bunch of wild products with built-in Alexa, from microwaves to wall clocks and eyeglasses. Many of these products have failed to take off, and the Build It program is a way for Amazon to assess customer interest in one of its ideas before it goes into full production.
The printer works with Alexa and uses thermal technology instead of ink to print small reminders for sticky notes. The scale can tell you how many calories are in certain foods. The cuckoo clock has built-in Amazon Alexa and a pop-out cuckoo cuckoo bird.

Amazon has said it will not say how much money it needs to launch a particular product. A progress bar will be displayed showing how far a product is and a percentage of the support it needs to complete.
Current concepts will be available at promotional prices until March 19. Amazon said more ideas are coming.
