Cities across the nation and around the globe are facing cold and flashy winters this year, with many seeing record snowfall.
From Tennessee to Athens, Greece, already frozen temperatures have dropped even more this week, as the polar vortex envelops the northern hemisphere.
In recent weeks, Moscow, Chicago, Madrid and many others have been covered in snow, in some cases reporting several feet of accumulation. US storms rose especially on the weekend of President’s Day.
In Kansas City, residents were hit by record low temperatures with a wind cooling of -32 degrees. Officials demanded that those facing the cold be sure to gather. And in Texas, millions are without energy, while the grid struggles to keep up during snow and ice storms
Snow has created dramatic scenes around the globe, with historical spots that rarely see dust falling and usually crowded highways slow down.

Athens, Greece
Athens was hit by a cold front earlier this week, covering the city’s streets with snow, according to the Greek City Times. It is a rare place to see the snow-capped Mediterranean city, with many people sharing photos of the old Acropolis. dressed in white things.

Moscow, Russia
Heavy snow in Moscow, Russia, has brought life to a standstill for many. What some call the “snow apocalypse” has affected both ground and air transportation.
The city has reported several flight delays, as well as pedestrians struggling to travel as they have faced gusts of nearly 40 mph.
Nearly 22 inches of snow had accumulated in the city since Saturday, according to Reuters, which also reported that the city set new daily snow records over the weekend.
Carrbridge, Scotland
Scotland, which usually has 15-20 days of snow a year, has faced similar transport challenges as snow continues to accumulate on its streets.
On Wednesday, meteorologists warned of falling temperatures and strong winds, disrupting travel in the region. Snow in the United Kingdom has reached almost 20 centimeters, the BBC reported. The UK recorded the coldest temperature in 25 years in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, on Wednesday.
Madrid, Spain
The Spanish capital has faced the heaviest snowfall in 50 years. A storm that hit the southern and central regions of the country left three people dead, according to The New York Times.
The blizzards forced the closure of Madrid-Barajas airport and even suspended rail travel in some parts of the city.
Nashville, Tennessee
Ice and sleet covered Tennessee on Monday, with many areas of the state now seeing two inches or more. Memphis reported more than 7 inches of snow and sleet on the same day.
Snow, icy rains and more sleet are expected Wednesday in the area, according to Tennessean.
Seattle, Washington
Seattle broke a decade-long record this weekend, with the state reporting nearly 8.9 inches of snow on Saturday. Heavy snow marked the 12th largest region in a single day in 1894, KOMONews reported.
A 90-year-old woman reported over the weekend that she walked six miles in the snow so she could vaccinate her COVID-19.
Chicago, Illinois
Over 18 inches of snow covered the city of Chicago Saturday. The city has experienced more snow in the past three weeks than it usually sees in an entire winter, according to The Chicago Tribune.
