A team of fans managed to reverse design the source code for both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto Vice City, making the files available for download.

This is great news! We recently saw what reverse engineering games can mean for moderators, with Mario 64 being the greatest example, allowing it to be “ported” to the PC instead of running by emulation.

Although this is not the key goal here – both GTA games are already available on the computer – the source code also allows moderates to create potentially new and interesting things. Like, using Mario 64 as an example again, adding ray tracing to the game.

That being said, gaining access to the source code makes porting to other the platforms are lighter, and the team has already received the code running on Switch, Vita and Wii U, hoping at the same time to receive it on PS2 and Xbox.
