Almost a year ago, the Covid-19 pandemic had just begun to shake US actions. However, the prospect of a year of shutdowns in the United States seemed extremely high at the time. And yet
The S&P 500 index
increased by 16% compared to a year ago.
Investors are optimistic about hopes of a return to normalcy in the coming months as states launch vaccines against Covid-19. For now, US traders will have free time for Presidents’ Day.
The federal holiday, which dates back to 1885 and was established to recognize George Washington, takes place on the third Monday in February. Since then, it has expanded to celebrate all US presidents. Government offices are closed today and it is a public holiday. The US Postal Service will not deliver correspondence on Presidents’ Day.
Is the scholarship open on the day of the 2021 presidents?
The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq are closed on Monday, February 15th. US bond and stock market markets will also be closed for the day. Both US stock exchanges will reopen on Tuesday at 9:30
Are international markets closed on President’s Day 2021?
The Shanghai Stock Exchange is closed until Wednesday, local time. This is because of the Lunar New Year, not Presidents’ Day. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange is closed on Monday for the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. The Toronto Stock Exchange closes on February 15 for Family Day in Canada.
The London Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange will be open on Monday at normal trading hours.
What about the rest of the week?
Some American schools are closed all week on Presidents’ Day for the holidays. Traders may be looking to do the same.
Going back to February 1971, the S&P 500 fell an average of 0.1% on the Tuesday after President’s Day, according to Dow Jones Market data. The average performance in the week of Presidents’ Day is a decrease of 0.05%, the index increasing in half of the 50 weeks.
