Former Minister of Public Works and Communications Gonzalo Castillo said on Sunday that the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) would be “strengthened” after the election of members of the central committee.
Castillo made the remarks after being approached by members of the press on his arrival at the PLD’s national house around noon to cast his vote.
In addition, the former presidential candidate said he was satisfied with these internal elections, calling them orderly, peaceful and democratic.
“Very satisfied with the evolution of the process, very orderly, peaceful, very democratic, the party will emerge very strengthened from tomorrow’s results,” the former official said, adding that this is how the PLD celebrates this type of event.
However, Castillo declined to answer questions about growing agricultural products and who could be the future candidate for the presidency of the Republic within the purple party, indicating that it is not the time to discuss these issues.
elections
On this day, the PLD has internal votes to elect about 300 new members of the Central Committee, which is attended by 973 candidates for 110 seats nationally and 190 locally.
To this end, 164,249 chairpersons of core committees were convened, including members of the Central Committee, provincial, municipal, district chairpersons and intermediate committees from across the country.
In these elections, electronic voting was imposed again, as in the 2019 primary elections.
For this occasion, they will take place in 374 polling stations, with 381 meals in public schools, clubs, community centers and others, while about six thousand members and leaders will act in the operational part.
The results will be broadcast from the same polling stations, while 100 percent of the results will be announced next Monday, February 15, according to PLD election secretary and member of the organizing committee of the IX Congress, Danilo Díaz.
